Although full of strong characterisation, powerful emotion and driving action, this book just didn't work for me. I think perhaps primarily because it doesn't include what I read Anna Pigeon books for - the national park experience - and also because the kind of mystery it is telling is not the kind of mystery I generally like to read. This is a convoluted tale of missing children and monstrous men, but it's closer to 'thriller' than mystery territory and just not my cup of tea.
